Creating a Hollywood Regency Family Room

I’ve been working hard on the new media room which is really a Hollywood Regency family room. (or living room, as it will have a BIG TV). This is by no means the final product. And I apologize, that the board images are a bit small.

A few of these, you can see better on this post.

Here is a better view of many of the pieces here.

The clients already own a blown Murano glass chandelier similar to this one.

We’re planning on doing seagrass carpeting wall to wall over the concrete floor. Seagrass is one of the best fibers out there for area rugs. But did you know that you can also install it wall-to-wall? Well, you can, but it needs to be glued down direct and it has to have a latex backing too.

Silk prints also from Bungalow 5 They come in several different versions and colorways. One is a triptych, which I’m going to see if I can find where I have an image of that on an old post. It’s stunning. hang on… okay… found it! you can see what I’m talking about here.

Brand New grass-cloth sideboard from Bungalow 5. Love the Ming design

abigail-gFrom World’s Away… remember how they have their annual contest that I have entered both times. Alas, I always seem to have only one piece and the entries that win have multiple items. Anyway, love this table which we can use as a game table.

Custom Chair  and sectional by Laurel Bern Interiors. (might do the chairs in one of the prints). I love this chair and have used it many times. It makes a great desk, dining or occasional chair. It’s very comfortable and a nice way to add a fun element to a room.

custom sectional from CR Laine (a great company!)

My client has her heart set on turquoise velvet, but no cotton, I told her. I’m on the task!

Not sure which cabinets we’re doing yet, but found this way cool one-of-a-kind piece online. I also found this one but it is beaucoup bucks.

Maybe I could have it made for less and do a bit more with the doors? I would tweak the interior shelves, too.

Here’s another one in black and orange that’s insanely expensive. Don’t ask. please, just don’t. It’s from Wood and Hogan where you can expect to pay 4k for an end table. Yes, really.

Overall, if this was white, it would be perfect. I also prefer the way the shelves are done here.

Bungalow 5 makes this version below, however, after looking at it for a week, I began to tire of it. I wish it were just a bit less obvious. Just my opinion. It is very cool, but maybe just a bit too pagoda-y.

And then there’s this piece which I love and has a subtle Asian thing going with a touch of faux bamboo and a slight pagoda flair on top. It is reasonably priced and if we go this way, if we don’t like the finish, could always have Stuart (our amazing GC) slap on (he doesn’t really slap anything on, but you know…) a coat of fresh paint.

Which one do you like best?

I don’t think I told you but these two cabinets will be flanking this very cool porcelain fireplace mantel that my client says “has to stay.”

Okay…

it’s more French Country than Chinoiserie, but a bit of the unexpected is absolutely a part of Hollywood Regency. And as far as I’m concerned, living with the things you love… well, they always go together.

Well, it’s Friday. Please have a wonderful weekend! I posted some early spring photos on facebook that I took on my way back from a new client in town. You can see them here.

xo,

  1. Your Regency drawing room is going to be great Laura! Please put it up when it’s done.
As far as the cabinets go: the dark/orange is way best, the over the top pagoda in white also darling, and the one that needs a slap of paint has a hideous “faux aged” glaze that would need total re painting.
