Hi Everyone,
First if you missed it, I manage to break my wrist, this afternoon and it’s in a cast now. Fortunately, the post was 98% finished. however, my right hand is 100% out of commission.
Okay, this is a rare post that highlights my favorite lighting company, Visual Comfort.
It’s for a good reason.
The 20% off sitewide sale at Visual Comfort only happens ONCE a year!
It’s always Memorial Day weekend. Well, it should be called Memorial Day Week, because it’s a week-long weekend. haha

Here’s the problem. At least 95% of their entire inventory is on sale. That is 6,537 items. And I don’t believe that’s counting all of the variations that the majority of light fixtures have, such as a choice of finishes or shades.
The reality is, there’s very little not to like from Visual Comfort.
But, even if some things are not your taste, there’s something for everyone, from super budget-friendly lighting,to ultra-expensive designer lighting. And a lot that’s in between.
I began ordering from Visual Comfort in 2005 when they were a very young company with only a few hundred fixtures, total. In the following ten years, I specified dozens of beautiful pieces. All of them will be in the widget.
I’ve also ordered several pieces for my own home.
In all of my dealings with Visual Comfort, there has never been a complaint, a flaw, or anything that came broken.
Oh wait. Okay, there was one time, a Suzanne Kasler chandelier (now discontinued) came in a black finish, and there was some mysterious white streak on the black cord.
This is why God invented Sharpies. Right?
Unfortunately, I wasn’t there, and the client complained, so I called Visual Comfort, which was called Circa Lighting back in 2011, when I worked with this client. Most of my clients would’ve grabbed a Sharpie and covered the white with it, but this one wanted a new chandelier.
When I got my rep at Circa Lighting on the phone, she didn’t hesitate for a second. They took back the original piece and immediately sent out a new one.
However, that was the only time anything was amiss.
Below is only a tiny fraction of the fixtures we used from Visual Comfort.

Above in this family room, created in 2008, are the Suzanne Kasler Quatrefoil floor lamps.

Above is the Large Paris Flea Market. On their website, they frequently call this the medium. The way to tell the difference is to cut the crystals extending above the ring. The medium has about 9, and the large has 12-13. Also, you can see that the lights are further apart on the larger one. Both have 8 lights.
The two times I did this piece, I did the medium.
The other one was in a bedroom with a ten-foot ceiling. It is stunning in person. And the size was also perfect as the piece has a lot of presence.

We used ten of the Silhouette Sconces from Visual Comfort in Mary’s lovely Tudor-style home in Bronxville, NY. These stylish sconces give off a beautiful warm light, and their retro-inspired design looks both fresh and appropriate.

Below is a side view of the Katie Sconce in my newly renovated kitchen. That is always the first light I turn on.

I bought two of them, but decided to only use one in the kitchen. So, I put the other one over my toilet.

Below is one of the wonderful Cabinet Maker’s Sconces in natural unlacquered brass. These are the 18″ size.
Now that they’ve been up a year and a half, they are getting a beautiful, slightly aged patina, which I love. That process can be stopped with a bit of butcher’s wax if that is not to your liking.

I adore these sconces, but if you order them, please alert your electrician that they need a smaller-than-typical light box.
Below, in my newly renovated bedroom, is Aerin Lauder’s design for the Hampton Mini Chandelier. It’s 16″ in diameter, and I think it works best as a semi-flush-mount, which is what we did. This fixture is available in a few sizes. This is the smallest one.

What’s funny is that I purchased it over eight years ago to go in my Bronxville Bedroom but never had it installed. After all of the moving around, I was grateful that I still had all of the parts!

Sorry to hear about your wrist, Laurel, I do hope it’s not too painful. Best wishes for the recovery, it has to go at its own pace, unfortunately.
I am so sorry that you’ve broken your wrist! I was in a spica cast for a broken wrist for several months, which kept my thumb completely immobile and exposed only the top half of my fingers. If you have an iPad, you might find that, with practice, you’ll become speedy at tapping out your writing on the iPad. Also, ask your doctor if you can get an Exos Wrist Brace with a BOA fastener, instead of a plaster cast. It will make your life while wearing the cast so much easier and before long, you’ll be able to take it off to shower.
I am thinking of getting the Hampton Mini flush mount in the white plaster finish for over my bathtub. My only concern is that this finish will get caked with dust quickly and be really difficult to clean. Have you noticed if the one in your bedroom collects dust quickly? (I should also check to see if it is damp rated to make sure the moisture in the bathroom won’t cause the finish to degrade quickly.)
Oh no, Laurel! I’m sorry to hear about your wrist. I hope all goes well with the healing process. Thank you for this informative and beautiful post – I love everything in the widget! Sending prayers for your recovery.
Hi Laurel! So sorry about your wrist! Wishing you speedy recovery! I have a special love relationship with Visual Comfort having purchased quite a few of their beautiful lamps for various homes we had along the years, and most recently for a pied-a-terre in Europe. I even have a couple of older, vintage ones. As I discovered recently, they now sell in Europe as well and are considered a luxury brand, costing about 30% more than in the USA. I love every single one of them. My only complaint is that on some of the newer models they started using ‘fake brass’, not the real, heavy brass they used to. But, I guess that is the case with most everything these days, it’s a changing world out there. Hope your wrist heals fast!
Broken bones, no fun at all. I put in two Visual Comfort chandeliers last fall and love them. Got a great price because they were being discontinued! Customer service was awesome!
One more bit of medical advice…if you need a break from pain and discomfort, try to stick with the recommended dosage of acetaminophen. NSIADs like ibuprofen can slow bone healing. I’m so sorry this happened!! ☹️
Laurel, I’m so sorry about your wrist! Please take it easy and be patient. Thanks for the Visual Comfort post. I just looked at their site for the first time in a while. They have expanded their selection of rechargeable lights, though they need to fix the web page, as rechargeable sconces are not listed with the other rechargeable lights. One can find the rechargeable sconces under “decorative wall sconces”. The beloved Vendome sconces are now available as rechargeable, as is the Cabinet Makers picture light, which you mentioned in your blog. Rechargeable lights aren’t really that practical for people who need to use them regularly, but if you are just looking for something pretty to fill a space on a wall and you will turn it one occasionally, I think they are great, especially for people with plaster walls or for renters.
Keep your shoulder moving too! Rotate and move that shoulder! When I broke my left hand (I’m right handed) a few years ago, I got frozen shoulder from lack of movement! Hope you’re not in too much pain!
So sorry to hear about your wrist. Hope those bones knit together very quickly!
No more hanging from the chandelier, even if it is a beautiful Visual Comfort one! LOL. Thanks for sharing the sale.
Really sorry about your break. I had a distal radius fracture last summer for being stupid on a jet ski. My advice—once you’re clearly for PT find one that pushes you. Be patient with progress, it will come, but you’ll need to work at it. In the meantime, keep your fingers moving. Don’t let them sit idle and get stiff. Good luck.
