A New Photo for My Portfolio | Living Room Decor

I haven’t added any new photos to my Laurel Bern Interiors portfolio recently and I wanted to begin to do that again, so I started with this vignette from my living room in Bronxville, NY. Living Room decor is often one of the most challenging. Invariably, there will be elements of the room itself, coupled with the clients’ needs which will make the design a challenge. The variations are endless. I welcome that. One of the most difficult I’ve had in my 18 year-old business, was in creating a “living room” for a family of 5 in a room 7×15.

One thing I recommend, if at all possible, is to live in your home for at least six months before you begin to do any major furnishings for major living areas. It’s not an absolute, but after you’ve been there for a while, you will better be able to figure out your needs and how the room works for you.

In the case of my living room, I had one idea when I moved in, but as I lived here for a bit, I realized that my original plan needed tweaking. I’m still working on things and one thing I’m planning on doing is adding some wallpaper to the entry and hall area. I fell in love with this Chinoiserie print from Thibaut.

The living room is yellow, but so is the hallway currently and I think it’s too much. It’s the way the apartment came and since it was freshly painted and I thought the color was pretty, I decided to work with it. The kitchen is a yellowy green which I love and I think this paper will be a refreshing change.

I’m still a novice at taking photographs, so it takes me hours just to take one. I’m going to be taking more in the coming days, but I do like the way this little vignette turned out. I like vignettes because it gives just enough information and makes me feel more drawn into a space.
