Hi Everyone,
Exactly one month ago, I wrote that my Englishman’s table was here. Well, here, meant in the USA, specifically, Atlanta. It wasn’t in my home yet. That happened last Wednesday.
Well, the guys showed up with the table. And you’d think for once, something could be delivered or installed without some sort of drama. Right? If something can go wrong, it will.
So, if you’ve already read part 1, please skip to part 2 to find out what happened by clicking the link below. If you’re here for the first time, or wish to review, please keep reading from the top of the page.
Part 2 Begins Here
Hi Everyone,
Okay, yes, my Englishman’s Georgian-style dining table is here. However, “here” means in the USA, specifically, in Atlanta, GA. Like my sofa, it was made in England!
However, I do have pics and a short story. It’s a good one.
First of all, I missed Anne O’Connor’s email asking if I could use the credit card on file for the balance of the table and the shipping charges. Unfortunately, missing emails is not uncommon. Anyway, I was all set to reply, “Of course,” when I noticed pics at the bottom of the email.
There were three photos of a beautiful dining table.

The only problem was, it wasn’t the table I ordered.
This was the quad-leg dining table, not the birdcage base dining table.
Oh shite! Don’t tell me I bungled that one, too. I was sure I had made it crystal clear.
So yes, I rifled through text messages and emails frantically searching for the proof that I had ordered the correct table.
After about 20 minutes, I found it all, including photos, and about a dozen emails back and forth that all said “BIRDCAGE BASE DINING TABLE.”
Natch, this was after I sent out the Hot Sales on Friday, so I had to wait all weekend for Ann’s response.
I spoke to Ann on Monday, and she said she had no idea why she sent those photos. She sent me the correct images, and here they are!
My new Georgian-style BIRDCAGE BASE dining table.

I asked for heavy on the hand-planing for a more antique look, and they did a fantastic job. Obviously, this is the table closed.
And below is the table with its two leaves.

God only knows if I will ever need a table this large. However, I figured I would regret it if I didn’t do it. Gosh, I don’t even have enough dishes to put around a table this size.
Oh well. We’ll just use paper plates. ;]
haha
Below is another view of the gorgeous cherry wood table.

I’ve always wanted a round extension dining table, and here it is!
What I adore about Englishman’s is that their tables are certainly traditional without the overly formal, too-perfect polish.
And yes, that’s a yew wood banding.
Hopefully, I’ll have the table before Mother’s Day. Cale is coming for a visit. I can’t remember the last time I saw him on Mother’s Day.
Speaking of which, have you seen the new Mother’s Day gift guide? I just added some new items to it and will add some more for tomorrow and Sunday.
Laurel, when will we see your window treatments and the Gracie panels?
Guys. Please believe me when I tell you that I am working on both of those things. First, my windows need to be fixed and cleaned. I have made headway with that and the Gracie wallpaper panels. Yes, I should’ve started on those projects sooner, but I am only one person, and anyway. Who cares? I know everything will get done.
I had my annual physical today.
Great news. My blood pressure was 113/61, total cholesterol 175!
The kidneys won’t get checked again until August, but I am feeling well and still going for long walks.
Well, that’s all for now!
xo,

Part 2 Begins Here
Sunday May 25, 2025
So, what could possibly go wrong?
It wasn’t with the table. It was our 145-year-old building.
There are two sets of double doors to enter our building. One is the door we enter through, that’s about 30″ or so. And the other door is stationary with a bolt lock. So, I opened the bolts, but neither door would open.
The problem is that the 60″ top was attached to the table.
Normally, that’s not a problem, because the tops are meant to come off. However, the delivery guy said they were told not to remove it.
Now what? It was 5:05 and I prayed very hard that Anne O’Connor, my lovely rep at Englishman’s, was still available.
She was.
Phew!
She said that it was fine to take the top off.
Here’s a short video to share what it was like, as it unfolded. You can hear the anxiety in my voice. I’m getting pretty good at editing the videos, but now I must learn to add subtitles or arrows pointing to things I’d like to emphasize.
Hooray, they got it through the door, and then the table made its way to its new home in front of the settee.
However, the guys had to screw the top back on which they said wasn’t easy, but they did it.

Here you can see the mechanism. This is an extension table. I’m not sure if that was the right decision or not. However, I figured if I didn’t do it, I would regret it one day.

And, here’s the table, in situ!

Sorry, these aren’t the best photos, and one reason is that there’s no art, no styling, and as my sis pointed out, nothing living, as in plants.
She’s right.
However, the Gracie panels are scheduled to be installed on the 28th. That’s only in three days! The day before, they are coming to install the lining paper.
So, things are still happening, but in slow-mo.

You may have noticed a long brown box sitting on the floor when I was waiting for the table to come in through the door.
Those are my window treatments in that box. Please don’t ask. I’ve already spent hours trying to find someone to clean the windows, repair them, and make them burglar-proof. I guess I was hoping that it would be one company. But maybe that’s unrealistic thinking.
Anyway, I think the table looks quite at home. I was afraid it might be too big, but it’s not.
It’s my proper, English, Georgian-style round extension table! Dream come true!
Last year on this week, this is what I was dealing with.
Remember?

And then there was this nightmare…

Haha! I finally came to my senses and had the floor redone so that it was level and tiled. I love the bathroom floor tile!
Wow! That didn’t get installed until August. I think that was around the time my neighbors were plotting my demise. I don’t blame them!
Well, thank God it’s a year later!
There’s one more photo to share. (before you get back to your shopping. haha)

I got down low, which is a good thing to do for interiors, quite often. The lighting is a bit off because it was such a dark day that I had to bring in a couple of lamps, or else the sofa looked black.
However, I promised a photo of the garden stools. I’m super happy with these beauties from Legend of Asia.
That reminds me. Please check out the all-new outdoor furnishings page. You’ll find a link to the stools on that page. And you’ll also find tons of gift ideas, including gifts for Father’s Day, that is coming up in three weeks!
And, also, there’s a special-edition Memorial weekend HOT SALES page.
I made some changes since Friday. One of them is a link to get 40% off an Ancestry.com membership. I’ve always wanted to do that. I have a first cousin who’s been raving about it for years. So, of course, we share many of the same genes and relatives, too.
Important: If you decide to get the membership, you have to click on the get 40% off option, not the 14 days for free trial. If you do that, you won’t get the 40% off.
And last, but definitely not least, is the fantastic once-a-year Visual Comfort Lighting Sale– 20% off of everything + FREE shipping! which you can find on the Hot Lighting Sale page. There are 90 of my favorites as well as the general widget of open-box specials. This sale is ending on Tuesday, May 27th!
Of course, all of my favorite vendors are having big sales this weekend; please check them out, and some of my favorites are on the HOT SALES page. You can also access the other Hot Sales pages, such as the bed & bath, rugs, and vintage pieces.
xo,
