Hope y’all had a wonderful Turkey Day! We did. It’s my very fave meal, and I make the same thing every year. Believe it or not, I started working on this post about 12 days ago, but I’ve been busy. I have some wonderful things to share, including my master bedroom decorating ideas for the project I have been working on!
In the same home as the gorgeous kitchen, (wait until you see the nickel hood!) I am also working on a French-inspired master bedroom. I have lots of wonderful master bedroom decorating ideas on my pinterest boards but I don’t have anything exactly like what we are planning. However, I do have a few quick snapshots of the current bedroom, to give you an idea of the space.
This is the view as you enter the room
Turning left is the fireplace wall, and those are actually doors that go out to a flat roof!
Opposite the fireplace wall is the bed wall. The clients put a closet to the right of the bed, which does cramp the space, but since the bed is a queen-size, it’ll be alright. You can also see the door to the master bathroom en suite to the left of the bed.
wall showing the entrance to the bedroom and adjoining en-suite office.
Architecturally, the bedroom, like the rest of the home, is absolutely exquisite, but in terms of the decor, it’s not quite coming together, and most importantly, the client doesn’t like it.
The Elements
Here are the elements that are going into the newly decorated room. We decided on a pale French, very classical, elegant look.
For Starters, my client who loves wallpaper, insisted that we do that here too. That’s totally fine by me, and so I went into the D&D

building and taking out about 20 different possibilities, but the one that took the prize was a paper I had seen several years ago in the movie Sex and the City —Charlotte’s apartment. Specifically, her entry. Who could forget that absolutely breathtakingly beautiful apartment!?! The paper is by Nina Campbell for Osborne and Little. This is going to make a stunning backdrop for our furnishings!
We’re going to have a fabulous Louis XV–style Rococo armoire. I looked and looked until I found the perfect piece, which is from circa 1850. It’s in France now, and we’re having it flown over, and then we’re going to do a number on the inside to make it really pretty. This is a similar piece and not the best photograph.
Then we needed a very large 12×15 area rug. I had considered a beautiful oushak, but they were all too gold. I also realized what we needed was an Aubusson reproduction that looks like it was 200 years old. And voila! I found this faded beauty, which she just received!
It’s a bit of a risk ordering online, but the vendor sent me a bunch of photos, all taken outside at different times of the day. Very sweet. I love this rug! For the bed, I really have a very bad photo. Here it is:
I love this bed because it does not have a footboard! I really wanted to lighten up the bed area, but retain its elegance.

We are planning on reupholstering the bed in this gorgeous damask from Ralph Lauren
The night tables are these wonderful beauties from Chelsea Textiles. Yes, they are Gustavian Swedish-style and not French. However, I find that Swedish and French look wonderful together!

The Lighting
The lighting hasn’t been finalized, but here are my ideas for that. We might keep the present light fixture and paint it, or I also love this piece from Cindy Ciskowki. The sconces are rock crystal from Circa Lighting, and the Crystal Lamp is from Decorative Crafts.

Trying to sign off, but the formatting is a bit off. Well,
it’s “black Friday.” I hate that term. Don’t you all think it should be called
“kaching” Friday? I think so! ;]

Laurel,
Love reading your posts! Do you have any pictures of the room once you finished?
Thanks,
Mary Sue
Hi Mary Sue,
Very little. Something happened with the client. I don’t know what, but the bedroom was never fully complete nor were there any photos allowed to be taken. I felt very badly about it for a while, but alas, one thing I’ve learned in life is that I can’t control other people.
There are a few images on another post of the fireplace wall and they are instagram too. There’s another image of the drapes somewhere, but this post has a couple of shots.
