You Won’t Believe This Master Bedroom Transformation!

This is pretty wild, but I wrote this post a year ago, almost to the day!

It was about this master bedroom transformation.

That’s what it looked like a year ago. [if you click on that thar link] It just wasn’t coming together. Although, it’s really hard to muck up this gorgeous bedroom with its fabulous architecture, the elements and colors were not right. My client S knew it but she didn’t know exactly how it should look. She was leaving that to me to figure out.

I did a floor plan first as always. We started with two elements. The wallpaper and the armoire. I showed S several armoires. She wasn’t too crazy about any of them. She said that she wanted something more ornate– like something she would find in an old Parisian home.

OH! Okay. Got it.

And if you go back to the original post, you’ll see what we went with. Sometimes I’ll show you what I think it’s going to be, but something changes after that, but not this room. After we selected the armoire, I had a clear vision of what I wanted to see. Pale, pale but punctuated with the Rocaille armoire and anchored by that gorgeous fireplace with the Delft tiles, flanked by the cool French doors.

We looked at several wallpapers, but “Charlotte’s paper” from Sex in the City won hands down. Interestingly, Osborne and Little had decided to retire it and we got the last rolls of paper available. Clearly it was meant to be!

Re: l’armoire. Some of you may recall that I went through hell getting it into my client’s home which arrived in ten thousand pieces from France. [not to mention the 12 day stint while it was stuck in customs.] Yes, it was all taken care of. And yes the repairs came outta my pocket. And no, [excuse my French], the bitch in France never reimbursed me. Didn’t respond to my emails. C’est La Vie. The piece is tres exquisite! It’s like giving birth. While you’re going through it you swear that you’ll never ever go through that excruciatingly painful ordeal again and two years later, you can’t wait to make another baby!

No photos of the armoire. The bed. And other stuff, but what I wanted to show you— my little Thanksgiving Treat for y’all. And voila! These are the same plum vases that I’m giving away! No, not hers, but two just like these! And please. These shots were taken with my cell phone! They are far more magnificent in person. They are a deep, rich blue. Tres yummy.

Even though the mirror in the previous incarnation looks alright, in person it was too big because it had to lean forward about 6 inches and looked peculiar. In my perfect world, there would’ve been a mirror about the same height that we had but longer. However, I could not find such a thing. No problem. That’s when I found the perfect solution. The plum vases from Legend of Asia. I could definitely see some beautiful branches in them. And then, we need some other things on the mantel too. The mirror is from Decorative Crafts. The sconces and French Flea Market Chandelier are from Circa Lighting.

We did one of my favorite window treatments which is a linen sheer which floats over its lining. So ethereal and romantic in a bedroom— and simple.

Here you can see a bit of the 12 x 15 Aubusson rug. [this is a BIG bedroom!] S already had the chairs. I told her that I thought that we could work them in.

One of my favorite elements is the little moulding we added just under the cove ceiling. We needed that to have a starting point for the wallpaper. Otherwise, it would’ve needed to go all the way up the cove which I thought would’ve looked strange. I love how the white paint. [Benjamin Moore White Dove] enhances the neo-classical details on the gorgeous mantel, original to this stately home built in 1910.

Well, it’s back to reality. Cleaning, shopping, more shopping, laundryyyyy, shopping, cooking and eating… and then I’m going to begin my annual diet.

Creamy pumpkin pie with dollops of homemade whipped cream lightly scented with vanilla and confectioners sugar.

I am incredibly thankful for all of the most generous support and kind comments I’ve received this year. I’ve had so much fun and there’s much more to come!

Here’s wishing y’all who celebrate Turkey Day a wonderful, joyous holiday!

xo,

laurel

    1. Isn’t it the best? It’s just THE most magnificent place. And wow, I’ve been working on it for nearly 2.5 years! It’s been my aim to give this stately home the justice it deserves. This house def has a soul! I’m not sure if I’m ever going to finish! S LOVES to decorate! Lucky me! Thank you so much Loi!

  1. Hi Marcie, I’m so sorry, but the paper no longer exists to my knowledge. What I can tell you is that it’s a Nina Campbell paper through Osborne and Little. I know that I got the last rolls, because they gave me a discount on it which yes, I passed on to my client.:] But hey, ya never know. Maybe they reconsidered, brought it back or have something very similar. I took out several patterns from O&L that are in the same vein. But yes, it’s a wonderful pattern.

    1. haha! I’m with you Eileen! Just a little microwave/mini fridge in the corner and I’d be all set. And if you like the bedroom, wait until you see the bathroom! ;]
