This week began with a splitting headache.
Too often I wake up two hours before my alarm because I have to use the bathroom. Well, I was all set to fall back asleep 30 minutes later when I got a text from Chris.
Good morning, Laurel; the team says that to their collective eye, there is no discernible difference in new and old colors in regards to the white bedroom paint color.
They are going upstairs to work in the den until you weigh in.
Blimey! How is that possible? If you missed the post. I had the original Swiss Coffee recolored to match the sample Chris made
So, without coffee and the aforementioned head pain, I pulled myself together to see the deal. I won’t go into all of the machinations. While there was a difference in the paint color, it was not significant, at least not while the paint was wet.
There were four painters, which meant every hour they were there cost me a hefty number. So, there was no time to lose.
I went back upstairs and got all the samples, the wallpaper, and the fan deck of off-white paint colors.
- White Heron was too risky as the test sample was as cold and bright as I’ve seen in white paint.
- White Dove was out as it’s too close to Swiss Coffee
- Simply White has that passive pink undertone that pops out like a pimple on the morning of the prom, not that it looks pink. But my bedroom is at the bottom of a mountain of brick. And one side of the mountain is the church attached to our home.
It’s the bay, with both the window and door at an angle that exacerbates and reflects the pink.
That leaves Cotton Balls.
This is strange. I have many samples of all of the whites collected over the years.
The colors seem to have changed. Does anyone notice that, or is it only me? They used to be closer together, but now the differences are far more apparent.
Still, Cotton Balls is very much like Simply White, except it has a passive yellow instead of a passive pink.
So, I decided to go with that, and two painters left to pick up the paint at Johnson Paint, where I was two days ago.
I sent Chris a text, and he texted back.
I was going to suggest straight white to avoid the room’s tendency to distort color.
A lightbulb went off in my tired brain.
Before redecorating my Bronxville bedroom, I remembered the trim was painted plain white. On the can, it said n215-01. That no longer exists, but the replacement is now oc-151 white. However, it looked quite nice in my south-facing bedroom.
Above and below, in not-so-great photos from around 2017 or so, you can see the plain white trim. The bookcases were always that dark cream color until I had them painted in 2018.
All of the bedroom white paint colors are Benjamin Moore White Dove 0c-17. Yes, I know the bookcase looks different, but it’s not.
I thought Chris’ idea was probably the best, so I trudged upstairs to tell young Alex to contact Serge to tell him to switch to Benjamin White oc-151.
After all, it’s one of the 12 whites in the Laurel Home Paint and Palette Collection. And it’s also one of Darryl Carter’s colors. Or, at least, it was when Benjamin Moore was marketing a collection of “his” colors that were actually rebranded as standard Benjamin Moore Colors.
I’ve frequently linked to the post on My Knotting Hill, where the code is cracked to reveal the colors.
oc-151 also known as pm-2 is the color. Some people think it’s the lightest base with no colorant, but that’s not true.
Oh, hold on a second. There’s some breaking news from the primary bedroom suite.
It’s Laurel! Come in Laurel.
Thank you, Laurel. Hopefully, this video works okay.
Wow! Thank you for the tour, Laurel. It was very brave of you to show up without makeup. ;]
Anyway, going back to Monday, after I gave the go-ahead to get Benjamin Moore White OC-151, I had to take a nap, and while doing so, I had a vivid dream about the paint color.
Below is what the trim looked like in my dream.
Anxious, much, Laurel? lol
Indeed. I’d say that’s a nightmare for real. Well, actually a daymare in this case.
I went down a little later, and the wet paint looked quite white. However, they were using their bright white light. It was so refreshing to see the muddy white gone.
Later, I came back down, and they put some white in the space on the outside of the panels.
It’s difficult to see above, but I cropped it so you can see it below.
That’s better. But look at that gorgeous paint job! Again, this is the Scuff-X formulation from Benjamin Moore. The trim is satin, and the walls are matte. Some of you pointed out, and I had read this as well, that the sheens for Scuff-X are shinier than in other formulations.
Please compare the difference between this and the paint disaster you may have seen in this post.
As you saw in the video, (if you watched it) the bedroom was painted today, although the primer is still on the panels inside.
I’ve come to realize that no white is the perfect white bedroom paint color. No matter what, the red will appear as pink, peach, or lavender in some lights. However, that will improve when the paper comes off the floor.
If the ceiling looks a little different, it’s because it is. It needed a new coat of paint, and I thought it would be better with a touch more green.
Italian ice green is a touch lighter and greener.
Both are beautiful colors on the ceiling.
Here’s the new bathroom subfloor shortly after it was poured on.
Let’s end with a prettier image of the white bedroom paint color and Italian ice green ceiling.
I think this bedroom white paint color is about the best it can be.
Well, tomorrow is another super-busy day. The electrician is coming back, Gary, the floor guy, is stopping by, and then there’s the big move.
xo,
