Hi Everyone,
Happy Halloween 2024!
Last week, I got an invitation to come to my neighbor’s Halloween party.
Aha! Now’s my chance, but with only eight days, I had to scramble to get my costume together.
So, I got online and found my dress on Amazon. I knew exactly what I wanted.
For once. haha
The dress arrived on Monday, and then I made an appointment for Thursday afternoon to have my hair styled.
I knew what I wanted there, too. It wasn’t a blow-dry. No.
Fingerwaves and a chignon.
With half a can of hairspray.
Near the end of the party, Jenn came over and took this photo of me.
No, dahlings, I’m not smoking.
Then, I cornered Jenn into taking pictures of me, you know, after she took her son trick-or-treating.
Fortunately, my friend Regina, who lives around the corner, asked if I wanted to go walking. The weather was outstanding. This is the warmest Halloween I can recall since I was a kid in southern Indiana.
Before our stroll, she was kind enough to take the pics of me on the stairs.
Below are my favorites from our impromptu shoot.
“I’m ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille.” ;] This is from the post where I discovered my code-compliant staircase railing from the old Upstairs Downstairs series.
Guys. I never thought we would get to this point, but here we are.
Thank you, Regina, for taking such wonderful photos!
Then, we went out into the world to check out the Halloween festivities in Back Bay.
People REALLY get into Halloween, in Boston!
We found a lovely vampire family who needed directions. It looks like she found plenty to eat.
Zombies proliferate
The owners of this mansion on Marlborough Street hire actors and make meals for hundreds of hungry trick-or-treaters. No, not just candy, but food and drink.
The streets are lined with candy.
And more!
We walked to Beacon Hill, which is known for its Halloween splendor. However, Chestnut Street was a mob scene, and neither Regina nor I were into that, so we went back to our hood, which was well-populated but relatively tame.
After we went for our walk, I found myself in the kitchen, as I was hungry.
Alas, I gave the “help” the night off to enjoy the festivities, so I had to fend for myself.
I hope you enjoyed our Halloween fun!
xo,

Way to kick up your beautiful heels!
Oh my goodness! This is the best! Your costume is the bees knees, Laurel. You look stunning, and it sounds like you had a fun Halloween. Thanks for sharing it all with us 🙂
Hi Laurel,
This was the best costume of the night. It gave me quite the chuckle.
You’re a funny one!
You look fabulous and that hairstyle – it’s the bee’s knees! The photo shoot on your Upstairs Downstairs stairs is awesome. It seems like your move to Boston has helped make life a lot more fun.
Laurel, I am telling Keeley Hawes to move over – Laurel takes center stage – or should I say stair. 😉 Love the pics – they are perfect. You definitely beat my light up cat ears head band. Happy post Halloween! 🎃
Such fun! You looked so pretty!
Just fabulous!
The stair pics are epic. Well done!
Awesome, Laurel, like out of The Great Gatsby! The Halloween pics brought back sweet memories for me from Back Bay, the mansion that cooks for the crowds used to play pieces from Bela Bartok’s Bluebeard’s Castle, which I always thought so fitting for the scene! Thanks for posting!
Loved your costume, Laurel! I was waiting to see you break out into the Charleston! I think the only thing you forgot was adding a beauty mark to your cheek! Yes, here in Southwestern Ontario, I think it was the mildest Halloween night I can ever remember too. I can recall walking through snow and slush as a kid. Those are the days we’d get apples and homemade fudge in our Halloween bags. There was never any fear of someone trying to hurt us back then. Sadly, those days are long gone.
Hello Laurel, No error today!
.
You look great as a flapper, and your newly-decorated house makes the perfect background. I love the community Halloween spirit that seemed to spread all over Boston.
