Hi Everyone,
Whew! Did we get hammered unexpectedly yesterday!
What was supposed to be an inch or two of snow turned into a substantial five inches of fluffy wet snow that sticks to the trees in the most magical way.
Those storms are less common than the ones that drop the dryer, more powdery snow.
But then, the temperature rapidly dropped near the single digits, and windchills were just above zero—about 5 degrees Fahrenheit or -15 Celcius.
I get a bang out of some of the tourists. They’re easy to spot, as they’ll be wearing only a light jacket with no head covering. Today, I even saw a woman wearing sandals walking on the icy paths in the public garden.
You were walking on an icy path, too, Laurel?
Yeah, I was, but I had on my heavy rubber boots and two pairs of socks!
And– it’s going to stay well below freezing, so that means this stuff isn’t melting, and we’re going to have a Boston white Christmas!
Well, some will be white, and some will be brown.
You know… snirt. Please check out what that’s all about in one of my favorite posts written 9 years ago.
I looked it up, and there hasn’t been a Boston White Christmas since 2009.
It was also the first major snow of the season and so beautiful. I did get a few shots and a short video of the snow in the public garden, but because I’m such a sensitive creature, my hands couldn’t take the cold for more than a few seconds of exposure.
Yesterday, on my way to the far side of Beacon Hill, I went down Commonwealth Ave. The mall is always so beautiful during a snowfall, day or night.
I seriously do not know how people text when it’s this cold out. In only one minute of exposure, I got some mild frostbite—it’s like a mild sunburn. However, at the time, it hurt like a thousand needles.
I was not trying to take a pic of a woman texting. She walked into my frame! It’s just that it’s very common. But, it’s also extremely slippery out there.
On my way home, around 6:00 PM, it was snowing even harder, and by this time, we had nearly four inches of fluffy snow.
A young couple stepped in front of me, but I like having people in the shot.
Seconds after this, I quickly returned my glove to my stinging fingers.
The couple was still there and began to kiss, as young couples in love often do, especially in such a romantic setting.
But then… just as I was about to overtake them, he suddenly whipped a little box out of his pocket and got down on one knee…
And well, you know the rest…
Okay, I also made a brief video taken in two shots. The first one is on the bridge in the Boston Public Garden around 2:45 PM, and then in the evening, after dark, coming home at 6:00 PM.
However, this wonderful Boston Instagrammer, Renee Jordan, whom I believe I’ve featured before (but can’t find where), created this gorgeous montage and beautifully captured the incredible beauty and charm we’re so luck to enjoy here in Boston.
I wonder how her hands are feeling today.
You know, I need to get those hand warmer thingies to put in my pockets!
Okay, I need to rest up because Monday is my procedure at Mass General.
I went over today to do a “dry run” because I frequently get lost at Mass General, and I need to be there at 9:00 AM which is early for me. BTW, if you don’t already know, Mass stands for MASSIVE.
I’m going to the Ellison building for my procedure. It’s the section with the praying hands symbol.
Some of you may recall last year’s post about Boston’s West End, which was leveled in the 1950s; a big chunk was devoted to enlarging Massive General Hospital.
Okay a Gentle reminder…
Time is running out before the prices go up on my helpful interior design guides.

The Etsy guide on its own. It’s 200+ seriously cool vendors.
Etsy is known for exceedingly helpful, personable vendors and great pricing. I always shop on Etsy and have numerous items for my renovation—everything from hardware to lighting and my cool Chinoiserie cabinet. We did remove a few shops that are gone or have virtually nil product lines. There are one or two shops that we left in, hoping that they’ll return.

Please note that I have decided not to create a membership site. However, this website is very expensive to run. The vendor you’re purchasing from pays me a small commission.
Please click the link before items go into your shopping cart. Some people save their purchases in their “save for later folder.” Then, if you remember, please come back and click my Amazon link, and then you’re free to place your orders. While most vendor links have a cookie that lasts a while, Amazon’s cookies only last up to 24 hours.
Thank you so much!
I very much appreciate your help and support!

Hello, Laurel! I used to get your blog posts in my email but I haven’t now for a long time. Is there a way to resubscribe?
Good luck at Mass General! I’ll be thinking of you.

Love the beautiful pictures. A far cry from the 80 degree weather we’ve been having near Phoenix, AZ (not that I’m complaining)! The pics of the snow and your descriptions of the cold are helping me feel more Christmas-y. I have been praying for you since learning of your health issues, and now I will pray specifically for your procedure to go well and for your recovery. Take care of yourself and know that we are all here for you! Happy Hanukkah & Merry Christmas to you and to all your followers :]
Thank you for sharing such magical photos! All positive energy being sent your way.
Thank you for the beautiful photos inspite of suffering frozen fingers! Best wishes with tomorrow’s procedure 🙏 .
Thinking of you today and on the 23rd Laurel and hoping all goes well. Now I have to talk to my sister in Goffstown NH – to see if she is having a white Christmas too. Not so lucky here in Montana – but then again maybe that is lucky :)) for those traveling to be with loved ones.
Good luck and thank you for sharing. It’s a great idea to do that practice run. My daughter gifted me with a pair of “touchscreen finger gloves” that work pretty well with my phone.
Sending healing thoughts that your procedure goes smoothly and that, on the other side, you are healthy and well in every way. Enjoy these divine holidays, your family and your wonderful snowy Boston. Thanks for the lovely videos. I am reminded of my great grandmother, Emma Frances Nightingale who was born nearby at #2 Beacon Street in 1846. Some of her ancestors were buried around the corner at the Old North Church. She would have experienced what you are now enjoying.
Thank you for all the amazing information in your fabulous blog. I am beginning my own renovation (not as extensive as yours by a long shot!). Your wisdom is settling in my brain as I go about selecting floorings, vanities, paint colors and lighting (just doing 2 bathrooms, flooring throughout and punching a hole for a doorway in my entry hall to bring in more light from the southern facing room which will be my office). I am in such a better place for having read about your renovation. Thank you, Laurel. Mary Anne
Can’t thank you enough for those enchanting pics of snowy Boston – just magical! Sending wishes for an easy procedure with an unexpectedly good outcome on Monday!
Happy Hanukkah to you, Cale, and Aaron!
Hoping and praying that your procedure goes smoothly. Wishing you a joy filled Happy Hanukkah to you and your family. Thank you for sharing the beautiful photos. I too love how snow makes everything look magical.
Hi Laurel,
Your pictures are lovely. We got snow here in Chicago also. I had to get it all shoveled the next day because I knew the temperatures were going to drop to well below freezing.
Good luck tomorrow. I’ll be thinking of you.
Another prayer coming your way from Florida.
Prayers that your procedure goes smoothly!
Lovely pictures of snow!! So beautiful. Best at Holiday time. Happy Hanukkah to you and your family. Hope you are celebrating with your son!!
Prayers for your procedure Monday. Happy and healthy New Year!! 🙋♀️
Laurel, a winter wonderland – beautiful pics! Stay warm. And good luck on Monday. 🍀🍀🍀
Bless you as you face your health challenges!!!
Laurel,
Many prayers for a successful procedure. Wishing you a healthier 2025 year.

Beautiful! You need some of those gloves with special fingertips that let you text with them on. But thanks for taking these! Sending good thoughts your way for your procedure.
Laurel, I’m praying for you!
Snow makes everything so ethereal and beautiful, at least for a while! Best of luck today on your procedure.
I wouldn’t guess tourists because of clothing. I was walking around in a sweatshirt with a temp in the teens. A parka when it’s in the 40’s reads tourist to me. I also wear shorts in that 40’s.
The first Snow is beautiful, if you’re not driving.
