Happy Thanksgiving 2020 and Important News!

Hi Everyone,

It’s two days before Thanksgiving 2020 and time for some music!

I Want Your Love – Extended Version. Trust me; you need the extended version. And, you’ll need to go to someplace where you can crank it up, if possible.

I promise that this is better than an hour with a shrink or a martini.

YouTube video

Let’s go back to 1978. Did you know I was a disco queen back then? haha

I really was. (forgot to mention that here)

I thought you were a ballerina, Laurel? And, that you’re into classical music.

I love ALL kinds of music as long as it’s GOOD music. And, a ballerina is a loose word for it. lol, I LOVE ballet and always will, but I do not have the requisite TALENT to be a professional. It’s a good thing; I’d be in a wheelchair, for sure.

Speaking of talent. Holy Crap. When you’re done with the song, please come back and check out American Ballet Theater, principal ballerina Skylar Brandt, from our Native “Nestchester” (as my darling son calls it) on Instagram.

I promise that you will be feeling no paint (I meant PAIN lol) at the end of the song, and upon seeing this brilliant young woman who defies physics.

So, this is my annual Thanksgiving 2020 post. Well, I think I’ve done one every year. But, no matter.

I remember I did last year as I was up in the Adirondacks.

Oh, how much has changed since then.

Oh, I know this year has been difficult for many of us. The holidays are a particularly difficult time when we’re grieving or have suffered crushing losses.

Some of you have had severe financial hardships due to the pandemic.

And, then there’s the social isolation.

I don’t mean married and lonely. I mean, ALONE. And, alone for days on end.

Well, you’re not alone. I mean, it may feel like it, but there are millions of us living alone.

Someone said that loneliness doesn’t come from being alone; it comes from feeling like nobody cares.

Well, I care. And, I’m sure that others do too.

Cale teaching 5th graders via zoom thanksgiving 2020

I am lucky that my son, Cale, is with me this Thanksgiving. In fact, he’s in my living room right now, teaching his last class (virtually) before the holiday. Then, we’re going to go for a walk and do some shopping.

And then, I need to put the finishing touches on my new guide, The 150+ Best Sources for Home Furnishings on Etsy, which is coming out this FRIDAY. I think you’re going to love it! You may recall that I did a post a couple of weeks ago about 40 of my favorite Etsy sources. Well, as I just said, this new guide is over 150 sources! Please note; I saved some of the best sources for this new guide. Of course, I did. :]

Included are fabulous sources for:

  • original and printed art and a couple of great frame sources too!
  • vintage, and antique collectibles
  • new, vintage, and antique furniture
  • new, vintage, and antique chinoiserie.

Naturally, there are also wonderful sources for pillows, cushions, slipcovers that Etsy is known for.

  • cut yardage of designer fabrics (and great looking budget fabrics, too.)
  • curtains,(some new ones, too!)
  • hardware
  • hand-crafted items
  • lighting,
  • gifts,
  • stencils, wallpaper, murals

and more! In fact, most of these sources you’ve never seen before. I spent hours combing Etsy for the best of the best. Most of these shops are getting rave reviews.

So, if interested, this is how it works. (If not interested, please just listen to the song and then go and watch Skylar practicing in her NYC apartment)

From today on, if you order any of my rockin’ guides (these are downloadable PDF files),

*Laurel’s Rolodex

*The Paint and Palette Collection  (Part 1, paint collection)  (Part 2 palette collection)

* Six-Figure Income Blogger

333 Rules and Tips You Need To know

or any combination of the above, you will get the Etsy guide for FREE.

However, since it’s not coming out until Friday, you won’t get your free Etsy guide until then. All orders after it’s released will get the guide with their other guide(s).

For everyone else, if you would like this guide, it’s 29 bucks, and you will be notified on Friday when it comes out.

But, there’s more!

***If you purchase one, two, or three of these products with an asterisk*, you will also get a copy of the 333 Rules and Tips you Need To Know guide for free.***

However, you will still need to pay for the rules and tips if you only purchase the Etsy guide. You will get the Etsy guide, however, no matter. I hope, all of that makes sense.

This introductory period will last from now through December 30, 2020, at 11:59 PM. After that, you will no longer get either guide for free. In fact, the Rules and Tips will be going from $49.00 to $59.00, and the Etsy Guide will go from $29.00 to $39.00. I am not raising prices on any of the other guides.

For everyone who orders my guides, this is important.

These are digital downloads. This way, I can make changes to the guides without charging you more money. And, they can be downloaded to any device.

(note: I do allow you to print out one copy for personal use, and you can bookmark and show this email to your vendor if they require it before printing it out for you.)

(super important) HOWEVER, when you receive your download link, it is important to understand that every time you click it, it is automatically downloading your guide(s) to your hard drive. And, you are only allowed to download it seven times. The computer default is a download to your documents folder. Find that folder and drag out your downloaded guide(s), and then what I do is save it/them in another folder on my desktop. I do this with all PDF files, mine, and others I’ve acquired. Otherwise, I would have no idea what I have and what I don’t have.

If you are ever looking for your download link, before contacting me to hunt it down for you, it would be beneficial to look for it first.

You can do so by doing a search in your email for SENDOWL. Sendowl is the shopping cart service I use that does all of my bookkeeping and sends you your download.

For current and new Rolodex owners. (others may move to here*** or just keep listening.)

Every November, a new edition of Laurel’s Rolodex is released, and you will always get free lifetime updates the Rolodex. This will be the 7th edition since the first year; there were two updates.

And, this year, the changes were the biggest ever as several businesses have either gone out of business. Or, their presence is so vague that I don’t wish to recommend them any longer.

End of my product update and now onto the HOT SALES, HOLIDAY, and BLACK FRIDAY info.

***

Melissa, my amazing virtual assistant, has done a bang-up job of updating the HOT SALES pages as well as HOLIDAY SHOP pages. But, as always, the end of November sales are INCREDIBLE. For example, One King’s Lane is offering 25% off sitewide – Wowza!

One Kings Lane Sales Thanksgiving 2020

And other One King’s Lane sales that rarely happen (see above)

Plus VIP access with code: OURGIFT (Through the 24th PT) at Serena and Lily. They have put their entire site (except for original art) at 20% off. Plus, there are more incredible sales. Please check out some of my favorites on the HOT SALES pages. After the 24th, the code will be: TOGETHER

In addition, please check out the HOLIDAY SHOP 2020 for decor and gift guides and favorites you can order online.

This is a relatively short post because I know that we’re all busy.

However, I want to conclude with some of the things I’m grateful for.

I’m grateful for:

  • Good health
  • My tiny family and especially my darling, supportive son, Cale, and my sister, Holly for her immense wisdom and support.
  • Great friends (that includes great friends I haven’t met yet)
  • Good hair
  • My sense of humor

Thank you to Jose, for helping me fix up my place (even though I’m sure he doesn’t read my blog.)

Maureen and me after closing Back Bay apartment

Maureen and I immediately after the closing.

However, the biggest thanks goes to all of you who read this blog.

At the risk of sounding phenomenally sappy but not meaning to, you guys are truly like family to me. So often, when I’m writing, I’m thinking, “oh, they’re going to love this!” Or, “ummm, no. I better not say that.” Or, “screw it. I’m going to say that because even though it’s a bit edgy (like when I visited San Francisco last Feb/March for the DIC), it’s too good not to.”

Some of you have been with me through health issues 1 and 2, and bashing myself in the head. You helped me through those tough times, and I will always be grateful for your caring and wisdom.

However, without you being here and reading, there would be no reason to write my blog.

Boston Back Bay Marlborough Street - November 7, 2020

Marlborough Street, Back Bay, Boston

And, I wouldn’t be buying my dream home in my dream city in my dream neighborhood.

Back Bay, Boston

I hope you will accept my gift.

It is never too late to give up on your dreams.

I am a testament to that. You see, I had given up. And, I wasn’t trying to do what I’m doing. I was just trying to get the phone to ring… Now, I never pick it up. lol

However, what I’ve learned is that when I stopped DREAMING and started DOING, is when I was able to make it all happen. So, keep on DOING. Do what works for YOU. Do what you can sustain. Yes, I still dream, but I don’t have as much time for that now.

Whatever you decide to do, it does not have to be perfect.

Perfectionism is the crippling action that stops progress from being made.

If you have a vision for creating an internet business where you can work from home and make a good living, I have to tell you that getting my Six Figure Income Blogger guide is the best $199.00 you will ever spend. In it, I tell you everything I’ve done to grow my online business from NOTHING to one that’s netting me a handsome income– even DURING a life-altering pandemic.

One last thing. Even if you’re not interested in buying any of the guides for yourself, GIFTING is available through the shopping cart.

Just click on the gift icon, and you can set up what you want to send, the person’s name, email, and then the day and time you want it to go out. Done.

Oh, the listing for my apartment just came out!

I love you all, and here’s wishing you the safest, healthiest Thanksgiving 2020 and holiday season ever!

Love,

PS: If you missed it, please check out the newly updated HOT SALES and HOLIDAY SHOP 2020

PPS: 12:01AM Thanksgiving Day. I am deeply moved by your beautiful comments. Thank you all so much!

  1. Say, the page for the Blogging handbook shows up as indecipherable code. (I have been looking and wondering if it’s for me, and now I can’t read the sales pitch!)

    1. Oh, sorry you’re having a problem with that. The only thing is, if you’re looking on your mobile phone, it will be a much better experience on a desktop computer. I use Firefox for my browser, but everything works fine on Safari and Chrome, as well. Phones are not computers and people sometimes configure their settings so that problems frequently occur. I don’t know if that’s the issue or not. It could be anything. If you are already on desktop computer, I would try another browser, reboot or clear cookies and cache. Hope that helps!

  2. Laurel –
I had time a little bit ago to listen to Chic.
I put in my ear buds, closed my eyes and danced (walked) back in time all the way to 1978 at the Patio on St Armands Key. Wow, what great memories came flooding back! I’m still smiling. Thank you for sharing that link.

I really look forward to reading your blogs on Weds and Sun. Can’t wait to see what you do with your new place!

  3. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your sons, Laurel. Your blog brings a smile to my heart, and tasteful touches to my home, every week! I’m thrilled for you that you now have your dream apartment.

  4. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your son. You have truly enhanced all of our lives with your amazing blog. I am one of the few people who have actually met you as you stayed a few days in our home in the Hamptons a few years ago. I am so happy that you are successful after enduring much hardship, and that you have found your dream home in a gorgeous area of Boston. Your current apartment should sell as it looks beautiful in the listing. I want to wish you continuing success and great happiness in your new home. Like all your other fans, I look forward to seeing what you will do to it to make it your own!!

  5. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones, Laurel! Thank you so very much for the knowledge, advice, and ideas (not to mention your wonderful sense of humor) that you have so generously shared with all of us.

  6. Laurel, wishing you and Cale a most Happy Thanksgiving! I’m so thankful for you and your willingness to share your light and knowledge (and well, yourself) with us. You provide us with so much more than decorating know-how. You are a bright spot in a sometimes dark world. I pray that all will go smoothly with the sale of your apartment and your move to Boston!

  7. I am so grateful to have the honor of having you as a friend. We have never met, but from day one of finding you on Pinterest, I knew you were a kindred spirit.
May you be happy in your amazing new home and may 2021 bring you everything that is good.
    Happy Thanksgiving!
    Pam

  8. I always look forward to getting your emails and I read every word. I have so enjoyed your house hunting journey and thank you for sharing it with us. I love Boston and it’s definitely my favorite big city. Happy Thanksgiving! Love and blessings to you.

  9. Hi Laurel,
I have recently found you and entirely enjoy reading your blog. For so many reasons. I’m from Canada and I’m wondering if purchasing your guides is a good idea or not. Do the sources you cite ship to Canada for reasonable prices? Do you have many Canadian followers?
Wishing you a happy holiday. I feel like I know you.
    Anne Marie

  10. Thank you Laurel. I love reading your posts, though this is my first comment 🙂

    Happy Thanksgiving to you!!!

  11. Hi Laurel,
Your place is going to sell so fast. I just know it. How could it not? It’s beautiful! I bet Sunday’s post will contain the news it sold.
I hope you have a great Thanksgiving. Where will your other son be spending it?

  12. I’m very thankful that you are happy and content, Laurel. God is good! “Give thanks unto the LORD for He is good; and His mercy endures forever”.–Psalm 118:1. Happy Thanksgiving!

  13. Happy Thanksgiving Laurel,

  14. Your happiness pulled me out of the pit into which the season had tossed me. I am, of course, going to have to reread all that about the who-gets-what to see if I, as a Roladex owner, get the Etsy list. Looking at Boston makes me happy for you. Now haven’t you come a long way, Baby! Happy Thanksgiving!

  15. I’m thankful to you, Laurel and for those who also teach and share wonderful design through commenting on your blog! I’ve always treasured timeless, classic design, but have never been successful creating it, especially on a rural educator’s salary. However, after finding Laurel’s Blog through Pinterest, all of you have inspired me to continue to dream and work towards the goal of having my own timeless, classically designed home within my retirement budget with your amazing guidance!

  16. Such a lovely post. I’m grateful for your inspiration, authenticity, and humor. Have a blessed & beautiful Thanksgiving!

  17. I enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to seeing your new posts like it’s a new book or a tv show episode coming out!
I’ve been a reader only for a year but I feel like you’re an internet friend and I’m genuinely happy to see your new home journey come to a happy ending (and it’s a fun new beginning!)
    Happy Thanksgiving

  18. Laurel,
Your posts are always a wonderful mix of humor, education, and wisdom. I feel that you and I are virtual friends. Good luck in your new home. I and all your other friends will follow along as you move in and decorate. Happy Thanksgiving. You and your son stay safe and healthy.

  19. What a lovely lovely post. I am grateful to you for all the passion you bring to us, the humanity, the grace, the humor. And, of course, all the education and inspiration for our homes.

  20. You are the best. I look forward to your blogs, and love being “involved” in your decisions, love hearing how you make your choices, it is like I am sitting with you discussing these choices over a cup of tea. Your sense of humor is unparalleled. Stay safe enjoy your little family and the holidays.

  21. Hi Laurel,

I love your blog and look forward to each of your posts. And your apartment looks great—I am sure it will sell quickly.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Cale,
    Sharon

  22. Laurel, I await every one of your blogs with the same anticipation as waiting for my grandchildren to be born! Okay, maybe I am exaggerating a TINY bit, but not by much. Seriously, I read and re-read them, and I am elated when you post pics of your houses (old AND new). Please keep the photos coming – it gives all of us who are clueless about decorating hope that, if we can’t do it ourselves, maybe we can emulate you. And your photos and blog posts let us see that you are a real person, someone who might have been a friend had we lived close by. THANK YOU, LAUREL, for helping us dream!

  23. H’Shana H’ba’a im mishbecha.
    Next year with family.

Blessings to you, Laurel. Thank you for giving us something to look forward to three times a week. And thank you for the inspirational words.

  24. Laurel, All blessings to you! Thank you for encouraging us, whom are alone and lonely.
Time does fly by. Dearest friends move away. Children and Grandchildren also move far away. So kitties & good people like you, make up for the times we can’t travel to our families & friends. (pandemic).

  25. Blessings to YOU – and a very Happy THANKSGIVING to U & Cale – oh, geez – I’ve said it before – but I’d love to have a drink a w/ YOU ! You make me smile, laugh, and THINK about my life and home 🙂

  26. THE BEST LAUREL!!! Thank you we did not know when we would dance again… and we are now. Love you, great luck, thank you for picking us up! xxoo pam

  27. I love you too, Laurel! We might never met up in this world, but every Sunday, I have a lovely, peaceful happy visit with you!
