A Mother’s Day Gift For You – 365 Days of The Year

Hey Everyone,

It’s a bit different kind of post today– A Mother’s Day Gift– for everyone who ever had a mother. ;] At least I hope that you’ll think it’s a gift. I’ll be more brief today than usual because I know that many of you are busy.

And if you’re not a mom or your kids can’t be bothered, (you’re not alone) why not treat yourself? Of course, the best gifts can’t be purchased.

This morning I had a fabulous gift. My old ballet teacher. (well, he’s not old) was a surprise sub for my Saturday morning ballet class. Nobody teaches a class like he does. Alas, he left us a few years ago to teach college students at Indiana University.

The class was like a reset button. It’s difficult to explain if you’re not a dancer. But I do know some folks feel that way just going to the gym. Do you have a reset button? Something that rejuvenates you like nothing else?

So, what I did for today’s mother’s day gift is created what we call a widget in blogland.

It is absolutely fine and refreshingly normal if you don’t know what a widget is and don’t care to learn either. ;] (I don’t blame you!) It’s just a bit of geek-code that magically makes things appear on our computer screens. All of the things in my sidebar are created with widgets.

I am going to be putting these widgets in a new shop and this time will keep it better updated.

mother's day gift - 75 of my favorite furnishings - chinoiserie side tables

Most of the things you’ll see here are not one-of-a-kind except for these luscious Chinoiserie side tables. They are vintage and only $1,100 for the pair. I quite love them!

These are furnishings that would go in a living room that I think are stylish and classic. I scoured all of my favorite sources and discovered some new loves. Some of these are not at all expensive and some are medium expensive. I did not include anything in the stratosphere. A few might be in the ionosphere. :]

What’s funny is that the widget puts things in the order it thinks they should go in. I tried to make it more random, but in some cases it’s not. If there are any pieces you’d like to know more about, all you need to do is click on the image and it will take you right to the product.

That’s probably better than having to look at numbers at the bottom of a graphic. I’ll still probably do those, but I thought I would try something new. Oh, and they’ve included facebook and twitter sharing if that’s of interest to you. If not, that’s okay too.

Oh, one other thing. Please expect to receive a short (and hopefully entertaining) survey from me in the next day or two. I have some ideas that I want to run past y’all. After all, I don’t want to spend time doing stuff that most of you aren’t too keen on.

Please enjoy some of my favorite home furnishings. Some you’ve seen and some you haven’t. Generally, if I liked something ten years ago– really liked it. I still like it today and will still like it 10 years from now.

Please have a blessed day no matter. Next weekend, I’ll be visiting my sons in Boston. That’s all the gift that I need.

Below is a graphic I made using a screenshot of part of the widget if you’re interested in pinning this for reference.

PSS: I almost forgot. Some of the beautiful pillows are from the Etsy shop, Stuck on Hue of our own Hollie Rich! Hollie is a frequent commenter. Hope that she sees some of her pillows here. She doesn’t know yet, that I posted them.

Thank you for being soo inventive. I love this post and looked up a few things that I loved. Happy Mother’s Day to you and I am jealous that you are going to Boston. Been there for our son’s wedding and loved the whole experience. Being a West Coast Woman I will probably never go back, but still, the memories!
Please keep up the great work you do here. I so look forward to your posts; so informative.
    Susan

    1. Hi Susan,

I like to change things up a little because one thing that bugs me about some blogs is that I feel like I’m reading the same post over and over…

Boston is a wonderful town. I always have a great time there. Usually we go to the ballet because my son gets free tickets! He plays piano for a special needs dance class.

  2. What a nice surprise to be reading about some of Laurel’s favorite products, when I spy some pillows from my shop! Now the mystery of why messages and orders spiked over the weekend has been solved. For Mother’s Day, my college-age son is helping me set up my new standalone web shop (separate from Etsy). It’s been great fun getting him a little involved in my business, and millenials are so good with technology. Hope you had a great visit in Boston with your sons, Laurel!

    1. Happy Mother’s Day Hollie and so glad that some orders came in! Love your pillows. I wish my sons could help me but that wouldn’t work. The visit hasn’t happened yet. This weekend.

  3. Love everything Laurel! So funny, I just pinned the green and aqua lamps from Bradburn Home to my Pinterest wish list earlier this week! You have great taste🤣Lol

    1. haha! I’m with you Deborah, but I’m very much thinking about slowly starting some collections along with my renovations which will take a while to get going.

  4. Hi Laurel…looking at those 2 tables thinking they look similar to a couple of table I have.
I bought a sofa table & lamp table from Henredon called Pan Asian at a warehouse sale back in late 70’s. They’ve survived 4 major moves including overseas and bunch of kids lol. Still beautiful ! Great post !

    1. Hi Carol,

Oh, how wonderful! The 70s gets such a bad rap and a lot of the 60s, but a lot of the high-end furniture from that era is fabulous and can be had for very reasonable prices. Love that!

  5. This was a wonderful gift! What eye candy! I’m already thinking about how I can use some of those pieces in my current client’s space. Gorgeous! Thanks. 🙂

  6. You helped me find the perfect mirror for my powder room and the star ceiling light will look great in my pantry! Have a lovely Mother’s Day and make sure you get a lovely lunch date with your son’s in Boston! Hugs

    1. Hi Diane,

My older son is so cute and has already worked out an ambitious itinerary. He does have to do some work, but one of his gigs (he’s a musician) is playing for a special needs dance class at the Boston Ballet. We’re also going to see the company do Sleeping Beauty which is the impetus for the trip. He gets free tickets and I’ve gone several times to see them perform.

    1. Hi Michele,

Ahhh… they grow up so quickly. I thought those days would never end and now I wonder where they all went? Bitter-sweet irony. Please have a beautiful day!

  7. Loved browsing through all your favorites! And would enjoy more posts like this! Happy Mother’s Day!

    1. Hi Lisa,

I love Boston too. It’s full of wonderful architecture and fun things to do. Plus my older son is a professional musician and I often get to hear him play!

    1. No, I haven’t. But… actually, you should be able to take the print out. That would be a lot easier. If it’s a very glossy finish, you would need to rough it up a little and prime it. And then you could do just about anything.

  8. I have the exact print of clouds and birds. Unfortunately, the print arrived with an awful white frame. I still have not changed it. Must do at some point. What were they thinking!

    1. Hi Denise,

Maybe you could paint it yourself. I do that sort of thing all the time. I mean, ALL the time. Just be sure to cover the glass very well. I recommend blue tape to make a tight seal.

      1. I’ve actually considered doing so, but haven’t taken the time! Perhaps I’ll do so. Thank you!
