Summer Whites {with a little red and blue}

Happy 4th of July for all of us Americans!

In honor of our day of independence, I’ve put together a little shopping post. There are some summer whites and some things that aren’t seasonal. There’s also some red and blue to round it all out. I guess I can’t resist even though I did nothing else to celebrate the holiday. It’s okay. I’m not a fan of crowds and loud noises. Besides, the FBI has put out a terror warning.

What we’re supposed to do with that information, I don’t know. Do you? Nuts.

The items below will also go up in the shop except they might not be exactly the same but similar. There are also a few repeats. I had some formatting issues and you can’t go back and take out individual items. It’s just the way the program works.

Oh wow! That pool looks so refreshing! I love all of the Chinoiserie planters around it. I’ve never owned a pool but if I did, I would be very happy with this one!

Do y’all have any special summer plans? I’m pretty much staying put except probably a little trip to visit my mom.

I’ve been going into Manhattan a lot the last few weeks to see the ballet and have enjoyed it immensely. I finally got to see my ballet idol, prima ballerina Marianela Nunez of the Royal Ballet. If you like ballet  and you have the chance to see her, you must go. She will transform you!

In addition, I’m so proud to say that our very own from Westchester County  Skylar Brandt, who I’ve known since she was ten was just promoted to soloist at American Ballet Theatre. She’s so frigging talented and very sweet and humble. I was so hoping that she would be moving up. She’s been awarded many big parts and nails every part.

Right now, my son has surprised me and is on his way over for a little visit!

Please have a wonderful Sunday and I’ll see you soon!

  1. Hi Laurel!
Hope you had a nice relaxing holiday! I love your selections and found them to be appropriately inspiring and the pool refreshing with its twist of chinoiserie planters. To the queen bitch that thinks it’s fine to publicly defame you on your own blog…..”You my dear are not Maggie Smith on Downton Abbey & I think you need to stick a friggin hot dog somewhere the sun doesn’t shine!”

  2. Again, great article Laurel. I appreciate the professional information that you share with all your dedicated readers. I am always excited to read your articles.
Just one question. I am not familiar with the trim color Cotton Balls. How will it look with Palladian Blue (BM) and the bath fixtures? I know you said that bath fixtures need a brighter white. However, these two rooms are next to each other.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Lisa, Cotton balls is a lovely, crisp, warm white that doesn’t go yellow. I have deemed it the true universal donor. Are there others? White Dove is close but sometimes too gray and yellow. Simply White is also very lovely but I’m not one to fiddle around with six different colors once I have the one I know will work. I think that it’ll look terrific with Palladian Blue. I’ve used it in bathrooms and it is also very nice. It’s okay if it’s a little creamier than the fixtures. The eye blends them together.

  3. Laurel, I love your use of traditional and contemporary pieces in those great reds, whites, and blues. Your blog is the flippin’ firecracker!! I appreciate the sense you have left me with of knowing you; the individual and knowledgeable designer. Clearly, not a hater. Keep on rockin’, rock star!

  4. Laurel, love your way with words. Great way to weed out unwanted clients. Especially the prude one! Who wants to deal with their high snobbery!! Keep up your great blogs and being real. There are many out there that appreciate real instead of fake. Your truly, Ivan

    1. Hi Ivan! Thanks for stopping by. I had a consult the other day and she put her hand over her mouth when something slipped out. I just chuckled and said… “this is me here! No need for that!”

I made a decision a while back, for my blog that I would occasionally use certain words and not others. I have to use descriptive words. It’s how I talk and it’s how I write.

And here… I thought for certain I had written a non-controversial even somewhat boring post. haha!

    1. Oh Pamela, Please don’t feel jealous. You’re very talented and so much better at the business side of things than I’ll ever be! Thanks for stopping by. xo

  5. Laurel, I really enjoyed this post! Such great red, white and blue picks. As a fellow blogger, I wanted to thank you for offering an authentic voice. It is much admired and why I continue to return to your blog! You are an inspiration! xo, Claire

    1. I’m so flattered Claire and I checked out your blog and it is gorgeous! So of course I subscribed and am following you on all of your social media links. Thank you again! xo

  6. Happy 4th July weekend Laurel! With all the really terrible things to be upset about going on in the world around us, it is truly amazing someone would chose to tear you and your blog down!!! Just want you to know that I truly appreciate your real and classy approach to sharing your insights and style with us. And much prefer to hear someone say frigging over all those “f” bombs I hear everywhere else. Thank You for that ! And keep on keepin on!

  7. I looked it up FRIGGING (intensifier): it’s only a frigging game; frigging hopeless. [C20: euphemism for fucking]. Collins English Dictionary … I thought she was being polite by using the euphemism. Great post as always Laurel! I’d love that pool as well! Does it come with a pool boy?

  8. Laurel, I do not know why you have to use such poor language. I assure you I am not prude and utter profanities daily, but I don’t appreciate your choice of words too often. “Frigging” for example. Is this really necessary on this kind of website? Look it up.

Actually, while you have some good ideas and advice and great style, your writing style bothers me a great deal. Not classy.

Evansville is a great town by the way.

    1. you are MORE than welcome to leave Karen. No one is holding a gun to your head. The blog is elective reading.

no lectures please. That’s about as nicely as I can say it. righteous and nasty does not = classy dear one.

    2. Karen, there’s a virtual door of sorts on the internet that will allow you to leave when you find something you don’t like. It’s that “X” on the browser window or tab. Click that and you’ll never have to be exposed to the fucking things on the internet that bother you.

      1. Hey Aleesh, My patron f-word saint! lol Thank God for you! To have a place to speak without having to put a filter on it is one of the most blessed things out there. What kills me is that on my own blog there IS an effing FILTER! This is the filtered version! And yet some people need to filter their bottled water I guess.

    3. Seriously, Karen??? Get a life. As a self-proclaimed non prude you sure sound like one. As usual, great post Laurel and that pool is divine!

  9. Laurel, beautiful, as usual. Blue and white and red. Nothing like it to celebrate the birth of our great Nation. Going to the ballet would make the holiday complete. Annieb
