Making a Grand Entrance | Hallway Decor

Most of us don’t have this problem. We’re lucky if we can fit a console table in the entry to our home. Some homes however, have really large, grand entrances but the owners have no idea what to do with the hallway décor. One of my peeves and if you have this, forgive me… but it’s one of those double story ginormous babies with a double staircase. It’s like Scarlett O’Hara cloned herself. One of her coming down wearing the velvet curtains is enough. Don’t you think?

The Bronxville Home  I’ve been working on has one of the most beautiful and gracious entries I’ve ever had the pleasure to help furnish. Immediately, you walk into a 13′ x 5′ foot vestibule. There is a coat closet and then a set of French doors which open up into a wide center hall which goes all the way to the back of the house. Two thirds of the way back, there is a dropdown of a couple of steps. Just wonderful. So, today, I took another couple of quick shots and the first one I really got lucky on. It’s very difficult to get everything perfectly straight on the IPhone. But what I like about some of these photos is that they have a certain energy which looks natural.

I also took a shot of this bookcase. I pinned it on Pinterest and it has been repinned 37 times and gotten 9 hearts.

And here it is… now filled with a collection of lovely boxes, porcelains and other objets.

This bookcase from GJ Styles (formerly Halo Styles). It is an incredibly well-done piece. It looks authentically old and like a lot of old bookcases it is only 8″ deep, so I had to keep that in mind when choosing the pieces to go inside. I decided on a largely monochromatic look with bits of gold and silver and a few porcelains. (had to have the foo dogs!) Then, I mixed in a variety of pretty boxes that I thought looked good together and collection of (fake) books. Yes, the books look like a set of old parchment books, but they don’t open up. They are purely decorative. For more views of this hallway décor please look here. And if you really want to see a lot of really gorgeous foyers, halls and entryways, please look here.

Spring is really starting to pop in Bronxville. I’m so enjoying the milder days and beauty that’s unfolding outside each  day.

  1. I have decorators white in lv and dr of
    Split level
May I use “simply white” for foyer?

    1. Hi Donna, I’m so sorry, but I’m not doing paint consults at this time. I would not be able to answer that without going into a whole production. It would be like a doctor operating without any prior examination.

  2. It must have been wonderful to work on such a handsome foyer, Laurel!! Very gracious indeed. And gorgeous styling on the bookcase. We are in Maine unpacking…..finally moved furniture up. We drove up on Easter Sunday and the moving truck broke down near Hartford, CT – that was scary! After waiting forever for a towing truck, we checked into a hotel with the doggies. But all is fine now! Ciao!
