Alright, I’m going to let y’all down gently before I really hit you between the eyes with COLOR!!!  And yes, that’s a room by a designer I have been in love with for the last 25 years, the amazing, Vicente Wolf, who in addition to being a super star, happens to be, probably THE nicest, most humble interior designer ever,  with his own very cool blog

And can you guess what the color is? hint, hint. :]

Sorry. I mentioned last night about my realization that my entire blog (just about) was pale blue and white and cream (with a smattering of charteuse) And truthfully, I never ever tire of those colors. They are so restful and serene and in this crazy, hectic world, that sure works for me!

However, I also love color and no one would be more surprised than me to hear the word.

ORANGE.

I mean, orange decor is just so 70’s, ewww, right? remember? (just say yes, even if you don’t.) :]

“Darling, are those the plans for our new kitchen? I was thinking that I would love to have a table, back splash and counters made out of formica to match your sweater. Then, some avocado green… and gold… and brown…

yeah, we actually loved this at the time! It was so modern! indeed!

Well, young and dumb is what I say. And the 70s, well, somethin’ went horribly wrong with much over compensation in the 80’s and then things began to settle out after that…

So, without further adieu, this is the reason that I adore orange decor. (amongst many other colors) Okay, I’ll shut up and let the photos speak for themselves.

Enjoy!

How do you feel about orange decor? Love it? Hate it? Don’t care? I think that a shot of it in a lot of rooms is most welcome and the complimentary color-scheme of orange and blue is an enduring classic.

Well, my auto-save did somethin’ or other and I lost a bit of this. (probably a good thing.) ;] The boys are all gone. (and so is most of the cake.) Happy birthday to my darling Cale!

Best Wishes,

Laurel

    Hi Laurel,

I’m a regular long time reader. I just stumbled upon this post about orange which is a colour I absolutely adore! I don’t know why it is not more popular. I just roared when I saw those Brady Bunch kitchen photos…… we had that exact kitchen!! The orange counters, the avocado green appliances complete with the island and wall oven… the house was a resale and the ” much admired” kitchen was the handiwork of the previous owners. By the time we moved in, the Brady Bunch was no more.. .. but the kitchen knocked everybody’s memory into overdrive bringing back sweet memories watching America’s first blended family living happily ever after!……ReplyCancel

      Hi Lynn,

Glad you enjoyed the post. I try to put in a variety of things and whatever pops into my head.

Yes, orange gets a bad rap, too often. It’s actually a wonderful color! I especially love the oranges that veer a little towards red.ReplyCancel

    Hello, Miss Laurel!

I’m time traveling on your blog. I’m eventually going alllllll the way back to the beginning

That’s probably why I get so little sleep on Sundays. One of your posts shows up, then it leads me to another and another.

    LOVE this orange pop post!

I think what’s neat about what I read here is that SO much stands the test of time. Five years later and any of this could be in House Beautiful or Traditional Home.

Keep teaching, I’ll keep reading 🙂ReplyCancel
